Coffee Shop for Students with Disabilities
Last day before Thanksgiving Break!! Woohoo! Today in math, we played a price guessing game about turkey dinner. Students had to list their favorite turkey dinner food, some favs were turkey, mashed potatoes, pie, corn, and SUSHI! :) We had to guess the closest without going over. Most everyone busted and guessed too high. We, then, added all the items together and paid for it with our new mock debit cards. Life in the coffee shop is hoppin'! Yesterday, I created a faux card reader for our cash register. I've had many people ask if we learn about debit and credit cards, and it's been a conundrum to think how we can practice it. SOOooo, I got a little cardboard box and painted it to look like a card reader. The students had a fun time today using it instead of our imitation money. They just have to remember to enter the transaction in their check ledgers. We are starting to do some planning for our annual Xmas party. Details to follow! It's been a while since I've been able to post anything, so I've got a lot to share today! A couple weeks ago, we lost a former student. It was a sad loss for many of the students and staff. He was a special young man and brightened our days. Here's a link to his obit: http://rapidcityjournal.com/obits/williams-iv-david-d/article_e0a2a02c-bf85-5801-870e-be98ed55eb98.html We will never forget you David. On more uplifting news, we had several visitors/speakers today. The first group was from Longhorn Steakhouse. Jenna, manager, came to do a demo on how to make a couple salads off their menu, strawberry and pumpkin. The students made and ate the salads, then made chocolate volcano cake! YUMMO! It was so fun, we ate cake for breakfast! The other people who came were from Dept. of Labor and Regulation. They spoke with the students about their services and programs. They have a TON to offer youth in search of jobs!
