Phew! We made it through the first week of the 2014-2015 school year. It has been a hectic week for students and staff alike, but boy does it feel good to get back into the swing of things.
The coffee shop students have spent the week learning about: what will get you hired/fired in the workplace (we got our drama on and reviewed good/bad conduct through a game of charades), the essential safety/hygiene procedures needed to maintain a functional workplace and last but not least, we got hands on with the espresso machines, cash register and the delivery route. Wake Up Central Coffee Shop will open on Tuesday, September 2nd! See you then :)
Our math kiddos have started using their mock checking accounts and have already been paid $400. But wait-don't go one s a shopping spree just yet, rent is due at the beginning of next week. We will work on story problems, time-telling, measurement and money each day. We will also pay 5 bills each month: Rent, Gas, Electric, Water & Cable.
We are all so excited for the 2014-2015 school year! If the first week is a predictor of how the rest of the school year is going to go, I believe that it will be an AMAZING year. The students are such hard workers and we've already had lots of fun getting to know one another. Hats off to the start of a great year!
