On two of our outings we designated a couple students to take pictures. They didn't necessarily like to take pictures of their friends, but really all the new things they were seeing. Here's the results:
We've seen it all! This year's stock show was terrific! The students got to see lots of stuff they thought was interesting. Some highlights were the petting zoo, the horses, meeting new people, and see all of the different things for sale. There were many of the same booths from last year but also some new things to see. This year they had some baby piglets named Wilbur and Babe, as well as two little white lambs. They were SO cute. On two of our outings we designated a couple students to take pictures. We've decided that we would like to learn how to cook. Well, as most ideas in our room, I start with a small idea and the students get so excited that it turns into a BIG idea! The students want to make so many things that we thought it might be fun to make a C102 cookbook!
There is a huge list of all the different recipes/dishes we'd like to make ranging from really easy (instant oatmeal) to much more difficult (apple pie). Our cookbook will be arranged, not by food categories or amount of calories, but from easiest to hardest. So far we have about 20 different items we'd like to include. Yesterday we started off our cooking lessons with mac-n-cheese and then scrambled eggs. The students did an excellent job and their food was yummy. Some of the students have decided they'd like to make special lunches for a few chosen teachers. I can't wait to see what they choose to make and how it turns out! It's fun to cook but even MORE fun to cook for someone you care about. The Police officers in our school came down to give Blake a present. Blake made some very good choices, so Officer Hower, Officer Doyle and Mr. Seales wanted to present him with a gift. They came down to the coffee shop and gave Blake a police issue t-shirt and patch. There are picks of this below.
Today, during class, we had social time. We learned how to include people in our games, initiate conversation, and find out others interests. This can be very complicated for us to practice. It may seem like we're goofing off but it is important time to practice this skill! AND have fun in the process! It's the start of First Semester Final Exams. Due to the weird schedule, the coffee shop is closed today. Several of our wonderful students are exempt from their tests so they get the week off! Woo Hoo!
Next Tuesday starts our NEW semester, and with it comes great confusion. New schedules, classes, and teachers make change kinda hard. But we're gonna make it! We look forward to having some new students working in the coffee shop and I can't wait to see what we learn! Thanks, everyone for your awesome support. We couldn't do it without you. Well, we made it through the first day back from Christmas break! It was a smooth day down in the coffee shop this morning; friends got caught up, coffee got made, teachers visited. Lizzy tried to fool us and turned on the Christmas music. For a minute, it was as if we never left!
Next week is finals week, which makes for a confusing schedule. If you have any questions about finals, please feel free to ask! We are, then, looking forward to a new semester. This can also be a confusing time for the students, but with patience and a positive attitude, we can get it figured out!
