Money ManagementEveryday, the students count the money from our cash register. We have $50.00 to start with and they count the extra to figure out our profit.
They also practice counting imitation money and play many money math games. We use real money to purchase materials for our coffee shop and classroom. |
Checking AccountsEach student uses a mock checkbook to pay bills, shop for groceries, and enter their paychecks.
We have added a simulated online banking program through our iPads. It has been a great addition to our curriculum. |
ShoppingAt least once a week, one math class goes shopping for our coffee supplies. After our manager makes a list of supplies, the students go down to the activities office to get real money, then keep track of our purchases on our iPads.

Time SkillsEach student is responsible for keeping track of their time cards. They are also responsible for showing up on time and figuring out how much time we have left of class.
|
MeasurementThe students measure using a ruler, tape measure, measuring cups and spoons.
|
BudgetingAfter we have paid our bills every month, we determine how much money they spent and how much money they have left. They figure out where they are spending their money and what might be some things they can live without. (Cable TV is hard to live without.)
