Wake Up Central Coffee Shop:The Wake Up Central Coffee Shop is a sheltered work experience for high school students with disabilities. They receive relelvant work experience through supported, on-the-job training in our own high school.
We were able to start up by funds from a Self-Advocacy grant as well as donations from our community and Cobblers. |

Thanks and GratitudeThere's lots of people that helped out with this adventure and they need to be thanked:
First off, thanks to the amazing Amy Heuston for starting the coffee shop from the ground up. I am thankful to carry on the experience and share in this authentic working opportunity with students and staff. I would also like to thank all my colleagues and friends in the LD department who supported me through my first year of teaching and case managing. A super thanks goes to Kathrine Riggs and Amy Beasley who took me "under their wings" as my mentors. We have such a great SPED staff here at Central. More thanks to my wonderful parapros, Robyn, Toni, Lori, Michelle, Ken, Mark, Charlotte & Kathy B. (I couldn't do it without them); Administration, Denelle Sprigler & Mike Talley; SD State SpEd peeps, Dan Rounds, Dave Halverson, & Melissa Flor; West River Foundation; Shelly Wolfe and the Cobbler Volleyball team; Custodial Crew, Ray, Doug, and Gary; KELOland and Derek Olson; SDPB and Charles Michael Ray; KOTA TV; Kathy O'Connor; my supportive and beautiful friends (you know who you are); my crazy and lovely family; our Cobbler family and customers; and last but not least, my amazing and unique students, who give me joy everyday. |
